TAHLEQUAH, Okla. — Immerse yourself in the art of Cherokee Nation citizen and artist Jeff Edwards in the newest exhibit at the Cherokee Cultural Pathway.
“Jeff Edwards: The Future Will Be Cherokee” is now open to the public and runs through April 12, 2025.
Edwards is an award-winning graphic designer and artist who draws inspiration from his life and career. His art consists of bold designs and thought-provoking ideas, merging Cherokee culture with contemporary imagery, with a focus on Cherokee iconography and language.
“It was fascinating to get a glimpse into Jeff Edward’s life and journey as an artist as we began to craft this exhibit,” said Karen Shade-Lanier, Cherokee Nation Cultural Tourism exhibits manager. “Jeff has spent years working with Cherokee language speakers, and you can see that in his artwork. I hope that as guests walk through the pathway, they get a sense of who he is and how the Cherokee language has shaped his life.”
This display showcases 13 large-scale reproductions of some of his most well-known works, such as “Sequoyah Warhol” and “Cherokee on the Brain.” Edwards is the fourth Cherokee artist to be featured in the pathway’s rotating exhibit space, most recently following the work of Cherokee artist Kindra Swafford.
The pathway opened in 2022 as an effort to improve safety and accessibility between downtown cultural sites. It has now transformed into an immersive experience, allowing visitors to connect with authentic Cherokee artists through rotating displays and permanent large-scale art installations.
