VINITA, Okla. – Immerse yourself in the thriving culture of Cherokee Nation in a day filled with new and traditional Cherokee stories at the Cherokee Nation Anna Mitchell Cultural & Welcome Center in Vinita.
The summer storytelling event takes place on July 19 from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. and features Cherokee stories shaped through a variety of media and activities.
“Storytelling has played a vital role in preserving and promoting Cherokee culture for generations,” said Carrie Lind, cultural tourism coordinator. “This event gives us the space to share our stories beyond our communities in a centralized location that attracts guests from across the nation.”
This year, event offerings have expanded to include opportunities for guests of all ages to enjoy, with readings and performances throughout the day from Cherokee storytellers:
10 a.m. – Traditional storytelling with Whitney Roach.
11 a.m. – Children’s book reading with Andrea L. Rogers.
12 p.m. – Illustration activity with MaryBeth Timothy.
1 p.m. – “Man-Made Monsters” (Young Adult/Adult) reading & Q&A with Andrea L. Rogers.
The Cherokee Nation Anna Mitchell Cultural & Welcome Center offers an exhibit gallery, a grab-and-go café, a gift shop, and flexible space for cultural classes and events. It is open to the public seven days a week from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and is located at 953 E. Illinois Ave.
