Chief Hoskin issues statement on protection of tribal rights to issue motor vehicle tags

"Cherokee Nation is prepared to protect and defend its sovereign right to issue motor vehicle tags, which is embodied in a state tribal compact. That compact, by its plain language, extends motor vehicle tags across the entire state of Oklahoma. Governor Stitt’s position that Cherokee citizens living outside of the Cherokee Nation reservation unlawfully operate vehicles with Cherokee Nation tags is frankly, ignorant and unquestionably illegal. Governor Stitt’s lawless and fact free approach to tribal sovereignty is nothing new and his actions against our citizens will not be tolerated"

Wado,

Chuck Hoskin Jr.
Principal Chief
