VINITA, Okla. — Explore the vision and intricate skill of one of Cherokee Nation’s most-recognized sculptors in a new exhibit at the Cherokee Nation Anna Mitchell Cultural & Welcome Center.
“Troy Jackson: Mercy Is in the Details” is now open to the public and runs through Aug. 3, 2025.
A Cherokee National Treasure recognized for his achievements in pottery, Jackson harnesses a dynamic range of artistry and deep reverence for Cherokee culture in his work. His unique and complex art features figures, patterns and symbols that tell stories of cultural and personal connections.
“With Troy’s work, every piece tells a story,” said Karen Shade-Lanier, Cherokee Nation Cultural Tourism exhibits manager. “I hope as guests walk through this exhibit, they discover a new appreciation for his work and look at each piece closely to decode the meaning told in both the details and the works in their entirety.”
Jackson is committed to sharing his knowledge and expertise with others and is involved in organizations such as the Cherokee Arts Association, the Cherokee National Treasure’s mentoring program and the Cherokee Arts Center.
“Troy Jackson: Mercy Is in the Details” includes more than two dozen pieces, including some from Jackson’s personal collection. Additional work is on loan from the Cherokee National Collection, including several pieces acquired through the Cherokee Artist Recovery Act.
