TAHLEQUAH, Okla. — The Council of the Cherokee Nation will swear-in three newly elected and six re-elected incumbent Councilors during an inauguration ceremony Aug. 14.

Councilors will swear to preserve, protect and defend the Cherokee Nation Constitution.

Newly elected Councilors include Uriah Grass for District 4; Ashley Grant for District 5, and Clifton Hughes for District 9. Incumbents who were re-elected during the June General Election include Candessa Tehee of District 2, Joshua Sam of District 7, Melvina Shotpouch of District 10, Kendra McGeady of District 11, Danny Callison of District 15, and at-large Councilor Johnny Jack Kidwell.

The tribe’s legislative branch consists of a 17-member Council. Councilors are elected by popular vote to four-year terms.
