TAHLEQUAH, Okla. — The Cherokee Nation will soon be accepting applications for Camp Cherokee 2026. This annual program offers immersive learning for students to experience science, technology, engineering, mathematics, traditional games and Cherokee arts and culture.
Camp Cherokee offers an innovative curriculum to share with young Cherokee citizens to show them how their ancestors interreacted with the natural world by explaining modern scientific and technological approaches to environmental stewardship. Students are encouraged to develop critical thinking skills while learning more about sustainable land and resource practices, historical and contemporary.
“Camp Cherokee is a special time for our youth to be enriched from STEM and our Cherokee culture,” said Deputy Principal Chief Bryan Warner. “Since time immemorial we have always believed in the power of education and combining that with our lifeways. This camp is the perfect opportunity to invest and push forward the next generation.”
The schedule for Camp Cherokee day camps for grades 1-6, includes:
- Vian: May 26 - 29
- Tulsa: June 2 - 5
- Vinita: June 9 - 12
- Grove: June 16 - 19
- Catoosa: June 23 - 26
- South Coffeyville: July 7 - 10
- Tahlequah Heart O’ Hills: July 27 - 30
The tribe is also offering a residential camp at Camp Heart O’ Hills in Tahlequah for grades 7 – 12 from July 26 – 31. Cherokee Nation welcomes citizens from across the country to attend, with arrangements for pickup from Tulsa International Airport for students providing their own airfare.
