Pop music legends heading to The Joint inside Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Tulsa

TULSA, Okla. – The Temptations, one of the most celebrated supergroups in American music, is bringing their iconic hits to The Joint inside Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Tulsa on Dec. 13.

Tickets start at $25.50 and go on sale Oct. 12.

For more than 50 years, The Temptations have prospered, propelling popular music with a series of smash and sold-out performances throughout the world. An essential component of the original Motown machine invented by Berry Gordy, The Temptations began their musical life in Detroit in the early ‘60s. It wasn’t until 1964, however, that “The Way You Do the Things You Do,” written and produced by Smokey Robinson, turned the group’s members into stars.

A number of culture-defining hits soon followed, like “My Girl,” “It’s Growing,” “Since I Lost My Baby,” “Get Ready,” “Ain’t Too Proud to Beg,” “Beauty Is Only Skin Deep” and “I Wish It Would Rain.”

The classic lineup, made up of Otis Williams, Melvin Franklin, Paul Williams, Eddie Kendricks and David Ruffin, became known for fabulous singing, smooth stepping and flawless presentations. The Temptations Walk became a staple of American style, and millions of fans saw the group as cultural heroes.

The ‘60s and ‘70s brought a more serious tone to The Temptations. Songs like “Runaway Child,” “Cloud Nine,” “I Can’t Get Next to You,” “Papa Was a Rolling Stone” and “Psychedelic Shack” burned with intensity. In the ‘80s, The Temps prevailed with smashes like the Otis Williams’ penned “Treat Her Like a Lady.”

The group went on to earn numerous awards, including five Grammys and an Emmy for its 1998 NBC miniseries that chronicled the group’s history.

The current lineup consists of Otis Williams, Ron Tyson, Terry Weeks, Larry Braggs and Willie Greene Jr., and they continue to tour around the world. In 2019, the story of the group will arrive on Broadway for “Ain’t Too Proud,” a new musical about the life and times of The Temptations.
