Joe Crittenden. “The Christmas season is always defined by a spirit of goodwill and unity, so we hope families will join us and create their own special memories of togetherness and joy that will last a lifetime.”

The family-friendly event features special activities for children including pictures with Santa, Christmas stories, lights and a parade. The events are open to the public and free to attend.

In addition to the festivities on the square, Cherokee Nation Cultural Tourism is hosting a special exhibit about the first Cherokee Christmas at the Cherokee National Supreme Court Museum.

Cherokee Christmas is on display throughout December and shares the story of how Moravian missionaries brought holiday celebrations to the Cherokee people in 1805. The special exhibit includes information about how traditions began for the Cherokee and showcases decorations similar to what was used at the Vann’s Georgia home during the first Cherokee Christmas.

The Cherokee National Supreme Court Museum is located at 122 E. Keetoowah St. It is open Tuesday – Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
