Cherokee Casino South Coffeyville employees donate food, winter clothing to NAFI
SOUTH COFFEYVILLE, Okla. – The pantry inside the Native American Fellowship Inc. building is overflowing with nonperishable food due to the generosity of Cherokee Casino South Coffeyville employees.
Casino staff recently delivered more than 600 packages of food and 50 winter clothing items that will be provided to local citizens in need.
The employees unloaded carloads of canned and boxed goods as they filled the pantry. The shelves were quickly maxed out, and many items had to be stacked on nearby tables.
“Our employees take great pride in helping those in our community, and it shows again with their efforts on this food drive,” said Lerrell Blair, operations manager for Cherokee Casino South Coffeyville. “It says a lot about our employees that they continue to spend money out of their own pockets to help their neighbors who may be struggling. I’m really proud of all their efforts.”
As part of the contribution, Cherokee Nation officials gave an additional $2,000 to help purchase meat for NAFI’s food distribution program.
“As president of the NAFI, I’d like to thank the Cherokee Casino employees and the Cherokee Nation for this donation,” said Bill Davis. “They went above and beyond to provide enough food that will help those who need it through the winter months and into the spring. We’re always in need of stuff like this, and the casino and Cherokee Nation have constantly been a great help.”
