TAHLEQUAH, Okla. – Cherokee Nation hosts several events in December, including the annual Christmas open house event at the W.W. Keeler Tribal Complex and “Light up the Christmas Season” event at the Cherokee National Capitol Square in Tahlequah. See all calendar items below.

Dec. 1

Cherokee Nation hosts “The First Cherokee Christmas” exhibit at the Cherokee National Supreme Court Museum, located at 122 E. Keetoowah Street in Tahlequah. The exhibit will feature details of the first Christmas celebration in Cherokee Nation, as it was hosted by the Moravian missionaries at the home of James Vann. 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. – Cherokee Nation hosts a Christmas open house event at the W.W. Keeler Tribal Complex, located at 17675 S. Muskogee Ave. in Tahlequah. The event will feature photos with Disney Pixar characters, information booths and more. For more information, call 918-453-5000.

1 to 3 p.m. – Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Tulsa hosts a Cherokee National Treasure book signing event in the Cherokee Nation Gift Shop. Meet and greet Cherokee National Treasures, who also will sign copies of “Cherokee National Treasures: In Their Own Words.” Books will be available for purchase. 4 to 8 p.m. – Cherokee Nation hosts “Light up the Christmas Season” at Cherokee National Capitol Square, located at 101 S. Muskogee Ave. in Tahlequah. The event includes Christmas stories, Christmas carols and fun for the family. For more information, call 877-779-6977.

Dec. 2

The Cherokee Heritage Center in Tahlequah offers free admission to members or citizens of the three federally recognized Cherokee tribes and one guest. Must show proof of tribal citizenship.

Dec. 4

8 a.m. to 5 p.m. – All Cherokee Nation Elder Angels are due back to the W.W. Keeler Tribal Complex in Tahlequah. Items can be dropped off at the Human Services office inside the complex. For more information, call 918-453-5000.

1 to 2 p.m. – Cherokee Nation hosts a Cherokee National Treasure book signing event in the Cherokee Nation Gift Shop lobby in Tahlequah. Meet and greet Cherokee National Treasures, who also will sign copies of “Cherokee National Treasures: In Their Own Words.” Books will be available for purchase. Dec. 8

8 a.m. to 5 p.m. – All Cherokee Nation Angel Project gifts are due back to the W.W. Keeler Tribal Complex in Tahlequah. Items can be dropped off at Cherokee First in the lobby of the complex. For more information, call 918-453-5000.

6:30 p.m. - Sequoyah High School Drama Club presents “A Christmas Variety Show and Dinner Theater,” located inside the school cafeteria in Tahlequah. Tickets will be $7 for adults and $5 for children and will include a meal. Reservations must be made by Monday, Dec. 4. For reservations, call 918-453-5156.

Dec. 9

The Cherokee Heritage Center hosts the Cherokee Warrior exhibit at the center in Tahlequah. The exhibit will be on display through March 2018. The exhibit features the evolution of the Cherokee warrior from pre-European contact to present day. For more information, call 918-453-6007.

Dec. 11

6 p.m. – Cherokee Nation Tribal Council meeting at the W.W. Keeler Complex, 17675 S. Muskogee Ave., Tahlequah. For the agenda, visit http://legislative.cherokee.org.

Dec. 18

5 p.m. – The Cherokee Nation Office of Veteran’s Affairs hosts a Christmas tree light ceremony at the Cherokee Nation Veterans Center in Tahlequah. The tree lighting event will include fellowship, songs and fun. For more information, call 918-772-4166.

Dec. 25- 26

Cherokee Nation’s W.W. Keeler Complex, satellite offices and health centers will be closed in observance of the Christmas holiday. Cherokee Nation W.W. Hastings Hospital urgent care and emergency department as well as other Cherokee Nation emergency services will remain open.
