Riders end journey at Cherokee Heritage Center

TAHLEQUAH, Okla. — The Cherokee Heritage Center is welcoming riders from the Trail of Tears Memorial Motorcycle Ride on Monday, Sept. 18. The riders will exit I-40 at Vian and follow Hwy 82 north to CHC.

“We are pleased to welcome this group to the Cherokee Heritage Center and thank them for their efforts to honor the lives lost during forced removal,” said Dr. Charles Gourd, executive director for the Cherokee Heritage Center. “We hope the public will help us welcome them to town and join us for a traditional hog fry.”

The event begins at 3 p.m. and is open to the public. Tours and a traditional meal will be available for $15 each.

The annual ride retraces various routes of the Trail of Tears and honors the memory of the lives on the Trail of Tears. The routes alternate each year between the Cherokee, Choctaw, Chickasaw, Creek and Seminole Nations.
