Cherokee Nation Entertainment employees gather needed items for Moffett Public School
SALLISAW, Okla. — Employee volunteers from Cherokee Casino Sallisaw used personal funds to fulfill a list of much-needed school supplies to Moffett Public School.
Cherokee Casino Sallisaw staff gathered more than 200 items for the children and teachers at the school, including erasers, glue, rulers, pencils, crayons, markers, binders, and construction paper.
“It’s always good to see team members come together for a great cause, especially to benefit local kids for the school year,” said Jonathan Cherry, casino shift manager and Community Impact Team captain for Cherokee Casino Sallisaw.
The volunteers collected the items in their free time and with their own funds as part of the Community Impact Team, a group of employees at each Cherokee Casino property who dedicate their free time to improving and impacting their local communities.
“We are thrilled with the donation,” said Jimmie Owens, superintendent of Moffett Public Schools. “We passed out the items among the children and they were very excited. We want to thank Cherokee Nation and their businesses for all they do for public education.”
CIT employees from each casino host a drive for a school in their community that could benefit from additional supplies.
“It’s hard to beat the feeling of knowing that as a team we were able to come together to gather so many items that benefit students,” said Cherry. “Who knows, one of those pencils or pieces of paper could contain ideas or stories that shape and mold our future.”
